Manda Bay is an exotic beach hotel located on one of the many unspoilt, idyllic islands within the Lamu archipelago. Situated on the northwestern tip of Manda Islands, the resort is set in the calm inshore waters on a long sandy protected beach.
For centuries this has been a calling point for the Arab dhow traders, a safe haven where nature is allowed to take its course without the interference of the modern world, and this tranquil ambience permeates the resort. Surrounded by miles of palm fringed silky white sandy beaches and intriguing creeks, Manda Bay is the perfect getaway retreat.
Room
There are 16 luxurious cottages (11 beach front and 5 sea view) flawlessly-designed and in keeping with local landscape. Nine of the rooms are set right along the seafront with the other rooms set in-between and slightly behind. Each cottage has a large ceiling fan and refreshing showers inside the en-suite bathrooms and own private verandahs. The Cuisine at Manda Bay naturally features a marine flavor, freshly caught tuna, Mangrove Crab and Prawns are a Manda Bay delicacy! They also cater for any special requests and flexible mealtimes can be arranged to fit in with guest's individual requirements. Romantic candle lit dinners can be bought straight to your cottage veranda so that you enjoy total privacy!
Beach Front Rooms
Beach Front rooms are situated right on the sea front, and have stunning views across the Indian Ocean. Each room is an individual cottage, constructed with local materials in traditional coastal style, with palm thatch roofs and woven matting covering the floors. The cottages are spacious and comfortable with their own bathrooms; sited to catch the cooling sea breezes and all have verandas.
Sea View Rooms
Sea View rooms are situated just behind the Beach Front rooms. Each room is an individual cottage, constructed with local materials in traditional coastal style, with palm thatch roofs and woven matting covering the floors. The cottages are spacious and comfortable with their own bathrooms; sited to catch the cooling sea breezes and all have verandas.
Garden Rooms
Designed to make your beach holiday more affordable if you are traveling with the whole family, Garden Rooms are especially designed for the children of large families. Each room is an individual cottage, constructed with local materials in traditional coastal style, with palm thatch roofs and woven matting covering the floors. The cottages are spacious and comfortable with their own bathrooms; sited to catch the cooling sea breezes and all have verandas.
Dining
Breakfast is a casual affair and guests appear in their own time. They serve a buffet of fresh fruit, home made cereals, yoghurt, breakfast bread and full English breakfast. Lunch is normally a light meal with a variety of dishes served buffet style either in the dining room, by the pool or on Utamaduni, their 60 foot sailing jahazi. Dinner is a three course set menu served under candlelight either in the dining room but more often outside under the stars.

There is something for everyone at Manda Bay. One can enjoy the comforts and the beautiful setting, in addition to the activities on offer which include relaxing by the water or indulging in a massage. If you are feeling energetic there are water sports such as deep sea fishing in search of the Marlin and Sailfish, windsurfing, water skiing and scuba diving to name a few, cultural visits and dhow safaris. There is also a games room overlooking the sea, complete with a pool table, darts and table tennis. Welcome to this water sports paradise. The setting is in a sheltered mangrove creek and the calm waters here are ideal for water skiing. Guests can ski at high tide, yet just outside the creek there is generally enough breeze for sailing, wind-surfing and kite-surfing. There is also provision for windsurfing instruction to beginners. Manda has four ski boats and a large selection of skis and other equipment, including a six-man ocean rider (Banana), an air chair, super-screamers (doughnuts) and knee and wake boards. Likewise instruction is available for beginner skiers. The resort is closed from mid April to Mid July.
